There was a very limited time frame between Clara's birth and our departure for Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was a busy, wonderful time, and one we will always remember with a warm feeling in our hearts, and smile on our face. We were fortunate to have visits with many family and friends...some of whom live close by, and others who made an exceptional effort to come and meet the newest member of our family. On July 14, 2006 we were blessed with the safe arrival of our daughter Clara Helena. We are amazed every day by her development and the joy the she brings to our lives.

When I woke up on the morning of July 14th, I knew that our baby was going to make his/her appearance soon. I had been feeling contractions for a couple of days, but I was certain that THIS was the real thing.

In preparation for our move to Bangladesh, we had sold our car, and planned on taking a cab to St. Pauls Hospital (approximately 20 minutes away) when the time came to deliver. Early in the afternoon on July 14th we called a cab, and between strong contractions I hobbled my way down to the foyer. I don't remember seeing the cab drivers' face, but I'm certain that he was not thrilled to have THIS fare! On the trip to the hospital I tried to be subtle when a contraction came, but, that was near impossible. I remember grabbing the handle, closing my eyes and trying not to moan too loud. Once we arrived at the hospital the cabbie was very quickly on his way as soon as we were out the door...oh well, at least he has a story to tell! AND it just so happened that the same cab driver picked up Mark for his next trip to the airport.

The facilities and staff at St. Pauls were fantastic, and I would heartily recommend them to anyone. Mark was by my side the entire time, and I could not have wished for a more loving or supportive partner. We have both been looking forward to the arrival of our baby, and are thrilled to have Clara in our lives. She is a constant source of laughter and love.
